Our June Ceremonial was the backdrop for our opportunity to honor Illustrious Fredrick A. Spencer. 2024 marks Illustrious Spencer’s anniversary of being our Potentate in 1974. Fifty years as a Past Potentate. A feat very few throughout Shrinedom have achieved. Before we celebrated Fred’s achievement, our attention was focused on our Ritualistic Degree Team as they, along with the help of the Oriental Band, painted a picture of the saga of a Potentate and his Divan preparing to traverse the hot sands of the desert. Our seventeen candidates were then obligated before being absconded by the Grand Poohbah and a band of men from Aleppo’s Loyal Order of Water Buffalos. Upon the return of our candidates, they were fezzed and became our newest Nobles of Aleppo Temple.
Next up to the Podium was Illustrious Richard A. Doherty to initiate the anniversary celebration for Illustrious Spencer. Illustrious Doherty gave all present, a wealth of information covering Fred’s journey from Mason to Potentate, noting that always by his side (including today) was Fred’s Lady Pauly. Next to the stage was Noble Harvey J. Waugh, Recorder Emeritus who informed us of the personal side of Illustrious Fred’s life through a few colorful stories from their past. To end the formal celebration, Aleppo’s First Lady Laura presented Illustrious Fred’s Lady Pauly with a beautiful bouquet of roses. Illustrious Doherty along with Illustrious David P. Veo presented Fred with a handsome plaque. All Nobles in attendance received an impressive challenge coin commemorating the special Ceremonial.
In attendance for the day were two notable Nobles. Noble Fred Goodwin and Noble Al Dodge. Noble Goodwin was Illustrious Fred’s Personal Aide in 1974 and in 2024 is still ready to assist Fred with whatever he needs. Noble Al Dodge was also on hand in 1974. Noble Al became a Shriner at a Ceremonial presided over by the new Potentate – Illustrious Fred A. Spencer. The Ceremonial and cerebration ended with a great Angus steak BBQ prepared and served by the Aleppo Stewards. Desert included our regular fare of strawberry shortcake and to Fred’s great surprise, a giant cake featuring Fred’s likeness. A wonderful day for all. Thank you to Illustrious Fred Spencer for 50 years as Past Potentate of Aleppo Temple.
